Construction of Quarantine Center and Ambulance Reparation

IOM staff in Haiti supported the construction of a new quarantine center in Belladère Haiti, the main beneficiaries were returning Haitian migrants. The center consisted of a total of forty tents, logistical and administrative spaces and a social area. The mission also repaired 50 Ambulances at the National Ambulance Center (Centre Ambulancier National-CAN) to promote migrant access to health services.

Recommendations
  • Such initiatives could be greatly improved is IOM procurement processes were more adaptive per country needs and challenges.  
  • Disparities between stakeholder’s capacity to response to emergencies, can be tackle by IOM team by sharing best their practices and enhancing and creating capacity to speed up their response time.
  • IOM staff along with the stakeholders managed to incorporate environmental considerations in the construction of the collective quarantine center. By installing solar lighting and selecting material adequate to the weather conditions, this also reduced the maintenance cost of the center.
