Monitoring Report Assisted Voluntary Return Programs September 2021

This report summarizes the results of surveys of 57 beneficiaries of IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return Programme (RVA), assisted from August to September 2021. The collection of qualitative as well as demographic data provides important information on the experiences of migrants in countries of destination and origin, as well as plans to migrate again, their physical and mental health status, financial security, employment, physical security and any assistance received after their return. Survey of the returning migrant population in El Salvador under the COVID-19

DTM COVID-19 El Salvador Ronda 2 The second round of the Livelihood Survey of Returnee Migrant Population in El Salvador was conducted on adults returning to the country at the facilities of El Salvador International Airport «San Oscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez» in the period of information collection (6 to 27 October 2020). The objective is to generate information for the development of support programs for migrants and their families. It covers areas such as financial inclusion and communications, job profile, protection, migration and demographic characteristics.

"If not by sheer necessity" Deaths and disappearances on migratory routes in North and Central America

Since 2014, more than 5,000 deaths and disappearances have been documented along migratory routes through Central America, North America and the Caribbean, although many more are likely to remain undocumented. In some places, this crisis of migrant deaths is widely publicized, but in others it is not sufficiently known.

Human mobility caused by disasters and climate change in Central America

This report contributes to a better understanding of the evidence on the link between human mobility, environment, disasters and climate change through a mapping of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. The study also aims to: verify the political and legal responses to this nexus in the seven countries of Central America; formulate recommendations or general guidelines for the development of data harvesting mechanisms; and verify the extent to which the definition of climate migration proposed by IOM is applied in the region.

Study results - Communication for Development campaigns

As part of the Communication for Development (C4D) processes that IOM, partnering with local organizations, executes in communities in Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala, a study was conducted to get to know these communities. The goal was to understand the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of people regarding migration issues, and particularly regarding alternatives to irregular migration. Here are the main results. 

Event Memory on the First Congress on Women in Migratory Contexts

The Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), as a regional consultation process committed to the Human Rights of migrants, has promoted various initiatives throughout its 23 years of existence. “Migrant women” is a current theme with a very significant impact on regional migration dynamics, and requires strengthening from the regional and internal levels of the Member Countries of this conference.

Guidelines for the care and protection of women in the context of migration

This document responds to the commitment of the eleven Member Countries of the Regional Conference on Migration (CRM) to promote, protect and guarantee the rights of migrant women in the region, in accordance with their international commitments. The countries of origin, transit, destination and return of the CRM join their efforts for migrant women through this document, which will serve as a reference for the development, design and implementation of actions at the national level in each of the eleven countries.
