Mechanisms on labour migration in Mesoamerica
The present report presents an overview of the regular mechanisms that allow labour migration in Mesoamerica, as important elements in national and regional migration governance structures. This study identifies that although in the last decade there have been important efforts in the establishment of regular routes of labour migration, significant challenges remain in achieving the mainstreaming of mechanisms as part of comprehensive labour migration policies; provide clear and reliable information to migrant workers on these mechanisms and consider as part of the mechanisms the need to mitigate the various risks faced by migrants in the phases of their migration cycle. The findings presented in this report provide a clearer understanding of these challenges, and at the same time identify good practices and recommendations to strengthen labour mechanisms in the region as part of policies that enhance the benefits of labour migration for all stakeholders.
