The number of extraregional migrants in the Americas, both those who use regular means of entry and those who use irregular forms of migration, has been increasing in recent years.

This report seeks to complement the findings of the 2016 IOM report “Migrant flows with an irregular migration status from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean in Mesoamerica” updating its data and expanding the information available on the experiences and needs of extraregional migrants who travel through the region irregularly.

The present study includes a description of the sociodemographic profile of the over 350 extraregional migrants, as well as a portrait of the main experiences and needs of these migrant groups across three sections of their migration route: South America, Central America and Mexico.

The Latin American and Caribbean Regional Preparatory Meeting of International Migration Experts on the global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration took place on 30 and 31 August 2017 at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago.1 It was jointly organized by ECLAC with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, as part of the regional consultations on the global compact.

Within the framework of the XXXIII General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), held on 09-10 June 2017, more than 200 legislators from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean participated in the High-Level Parliamentary Dialogue on Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event was jointly convened by the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for purposes of sharing experiences, identifying and analyzing challenges, exchanging good practices related to international migration, and generating useful input for the development of a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration.

National Position of Honduras Regarding the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM)

Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora
