Central American migrant children and adolescents in southern Mexico

The Central American transmigration through Mexico began to generate interest during the last decades of the 20th century. From this moment, this topic has been investigated focusing on the migration of men and women; However, recently there has been an interest in knowing the trajectory of migrant children who travel unaccompanied to the United States or establish themselves temporarily or definitively in southern Mexico.

Trafficking in persons in Mexico: diagnosis of assistance to victims of human trafficking

In Mexico, various socio-economic and cultural factors, as well as certain geographical conditions and the very nature of the migration process, accentuate the risks of migrant populations to human trafficking in that country. This publication, in addition to examining this phenomenon, offers an approximation to the profile of victims, analyzes the institutional response to combat it and gathers the main experiences of IOM Mexico in the care of victims. The document also identifies challenges and recommendations for assistance to victims of human trafficking.

Plan to strengthen the governance of extraregional migrant flows in Mesoamerica

This document is a guide to support the development of a comprehensive response plan to the current situation posed by these migratory flows for the region, based on an approach focused on the protection of life, the integrity and rights of migrants and based on the promotion of alliances among all relevant actors.

Regional Guidelines for Action for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents in the Context of Migration

This document is a non-binding guide adopted by the countries of the region in the framework of the Regional Conference on Migration. It establishes regional guidelines for the comprehensive protection of migrant children and adolescents, applying the guiding principles and protection measures, and strengthening the national efforts of the RCM Member Countries and their institutions. It also seeks to be a reference for a change in the vision and approach of migrant children and adolescents, not only in the region but worldwide.

Characteristics of the process of collection and use of administrative records on migration in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean

Evidence-based migration policies are a key component of good migration governance. However, several recent studies and evaluations warn of multiple challenges to ensure the availability of up-to-date data and information and understand real migration in the region. In response to this need, the International Organization for Migration developed the project under which this study is framed, which is financed through the IOM Development Fund. This project seeks to promote collaboration between countries and contribute to the strengthening of their institutional capacities.
